Biography

There is a dispute over the birth date of Francis Moore. The Cambridge records, and his gravestone, both say that he was age 85 at his death 20 August 1671. That would make his birth year 1586. Dorothy Greenleaf Boynton stated that it appears very clear that the Francis Moore who died in 1671 in Cambridge was the same person who was baptized 2 September 1592 in Maldon, Essex. She explained the discrepancy in the dates this way: "However, it must be remembered that elderly people did (and do) make mistakes in recalling their age. Note that the birth of the first child at 27, Francis, Jr., would be much more reasonable than at 34 if the earlier date is to be taken as correct.".[1] [The only known date is that of his baptism, and we know that he was born before that, so "before 2 September 1592" is shown as birth date, pending a discussion on G2G of what should appear in the 'data' section of this profile.]

Francis Moore, the son of Enoch Moore (1561 - 1615) and his wife Catherine ____, was baptized 2 September 1592 in All Saints parish, Maldon, Essex.[1]

What is the source of the list of children? And why is Edmund on the list?

Also, Boynton appears to have gotten her info from Paige's "History of Boston."

Moore-582 and Moore-30471 appear to represent the same person because: Although the date of birth is disputed as 1586 or 1592, the date of death is exactly the same. Since there is no other information in the profile of Moore-30471, I suggest we make this merge.

Moore-582 and Moore-15476 appear to represent the same person because: Please agree to merge these two profiles for Francis Moore. Let's have the discussion on G2G about which birth year should be displayed in the data section of his profile. Thanks!

Moore-15476 and Moore-16898 are not ready to be merged because: Not enough information to confirm or reject match

Moore-15476 and Moore-16898 appear to represent the same person because: Francis Moore 15476 (profile managed by me) has only correct birth year and partial date of death so it should be absorbed by Moore 16898 through a merge that retains the former's data. Following this merge, I will suggest a second one with Moore 582 to consolidate all into one, comprehensive profile.

Jay,

I have unattached Francis as spouse of Francis since he cannot marry himself, need to change sex of Moores -82 to male then just need to edit last name at birth to Moore. Correction of date of death needs to match with Cambridge MA Vital records which is Died August 20, 1671 in Cambridge, Essex, Massachusetts. See Sources on Moore-582 Then we can merge this profile with Moore-582. Thank You, Cheryl Caudill ~WikiTree Ranger
