Biography

Annie Moore was born about 1896 in Wallaceburg, Kent, Ontario, daughter of James Moore and Ellen (Comer) Moore.^[1]

At the time of the 1901 cenuss, 6 year old Annie was living in the household of her father James along with her mother, Nellie (Ellen) and her seven siblings. ^[2] Her birthdate is given as 4 Oct 1894.

Ten years later, we find her listed as Anna in the household of her parents James and Nellie, who farmed land at Lot 11 in the first concession of Dawn Township, Lambton County, Ontario. ^[3] Her birthdate is given here as Oct. 1896, two years off that given in 1901.

At the age of 19, Annie married Francis Edward Countryman on 19 Jan 1914 in Wallaceburg, Kent, Ontario.^[1] Her parents were listed on this record as James Moore and Ellen Comer.

In the 1921 census Anne and Frank Countryman are living in Dover, Kent, Ontario with their four children: Cecil (6), Stella (3), Francis (2), Joseph (1).^[4]

On Jan 12th, 1933 Annie gave birth to a son, Frank Countryman, at St. Joseph Hospital in Chatham. Sadly, the child was stillborn as a result of Annie suffering from influenza. Frank Countryman of Wallaceburg, the father of the child, provided the information and young Frank was buried in Wallaceburg . ^[5]

Annie died about 1969 and is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Wallaceburg, Chatham-Kent alongside her husband. ^[6]

Research Notes

It is likely that Annie'e birth was never registered, as the only birth registrations that were found for children in this family were three late registrations in 1925 for her siblings Bruce (born 1890),^[7] Ernest (born 1894) ^[8] and Helen (born 1903). ^[9]

In examining the existing records that give Annie's age, we can estimate that she was born between 1894 and 1896.

• in 1901, she is listed as age 6, birthdate is 1 Oct 1894.^[2]
• In 1911, she is listed as age 15, birthdate is Oct 1896. ^[3]
• In 1914 , she is listed as age 19, estimated birth year 1895. ^[1]
• In 1921, she is listed as age 25, estimated birth year 1896.^[4]

Also, although her birthdate of 4 Oct 1894 as reported in 1901 might seem ther most accurate, it must be considered that her brother Ernest has a birth record that shows he was born on 3 Oct 1894. ^[8]It is likely that this date is accurate as his mother was the informant and this is also the year that is shown on his headstone.^[10] That then means that Annie's reported birth date of 4 Oct 1894 has to be incorrect. We know that she and Edward weren't twins, as they are listed at separate ages in both 1901 and 1911 census returns. It seems most likely that Annie was born in Oct 1896.
