Biography

John More (or Moore) was born about 1799.[1]

He is believed to be son of Henry and Sarah Moore, born in United States, and moved with his family to Upper Canada around 1810. The More / Moore family settled land south of Sheffield, within Beverly Township, Wentworth, Gore district, Upper Canada (now part of Hamilton-Wentworth Municipality).[2]

The 1819 census for Beverly (Wentworth) lists Henry Moore as head of household.[3]

Transcription of the 1825 Beverly Township census identifies Henry More and also John More. Presumably son John was now of age and had established his own household. His household included two males > 16, 1 male < 16, one female >16, and one female <16. Possibly one of his brothers was the other male over 16? [4] (Household for Henry More lists 6 persons, five over 16 years.)

John More/Moore died 12 September 1848 in his 49th year. He was buried at Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield, Canada West.[1]

Research Notes

The 1842 Canada West census record for Beverly sub-district is available as Archives of Ontario microfilm M-7746, but apparently has not been officially or unofficially digitized yet. Gierszewski-4 02:36, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
