Biography

The date of birth of 1610 conflicts with numerous source who say his date of birth is closer to 1640.

Cason Moore[1] was born about 1610 in England. Various unsourced family trees show his parents as Edward Moore and: Mary Cason, Susannah Cason, Margaret Palmen, Mary Edgley or Elizabeth Unknown. They also show that he died in England in 1643, however this date cannot be correct, as he wrote his Will in January 1686/7 in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia, where it was probated in March 1686/7. We know from his Will that his wife, at the time he wrote it in 1686/7, was Sarah, his brother-in-law was Henry Woodhouse, and his father was Edmund (possibly a misreading of Edward).

In 1686, Cason Moore was mentioned in the Will of Henry Woodhouse of the parish of Linhaven, Lower Norfolk, Virginia, which identifies Cason's wife as Sarah Woodhouse, daughter of Henry Woodhouse:

"... to daughters Elizabeth and Lucy, daughter Mary, wife of William More, and daughter Sarah, wife of Cason More."[2]

Cason Moore was the first husband of Sarah Woodhouse. She married second John Stanford, and third William Cloues (Clowes).[3] In her Will, Sarah mentions:[4]

  • her two sons, Henry and Cason Moore, sons of Cason Moore
  • Henry Moore, son of Henry Moore my son

The following abstract of his Will shows that Cason Moore had:[5]

  • daughter Sarah
  • eldest son Cason
  • son Henry
  • father Edmund
  • brother Thomas
  • brother William
  • brother-in-law Henry Woodhouse
