Unknown Moore. Married Unknown Lynch.
Research Notes
Possible first name:
Francis. The name of his eldest grandson.
Laurence. Based on having grandsons named Lawrence Moore and Laurence Lynch (see notes here). This also fits with Lorenzo of the Ogle family (see below).
"Sir Thomas Moore, famous in the war of the Peninsula", who died unmarried.
"the Thomas Moore of song", Catholic poet of County Kerry.
The latter seems unlikely because, although he was a Whig, like Captain Moore's brother John, editor of the Red River Whig newspaper, and was also linked to the American Civil War, his family were Catholics having resided in County Kerry for many generations, so were not likely related to a navy family, nor one from Scotland.
Sir Thomas Moore had a brother, Admiral Graham Moore, who may be a good fit for this man, but Graham had a son John born Malta 1822, so can't have had a son John in 1778. In fact it is difficult for this man to be a brother of Sir Thomas, because Sir Thomas's parents married in 1757, which would mean that this man would have to marry aged 20 in 1777 to have son John in 1778, which seems too young.
An alleged distant ancestor:
"Martin Moore came to Ireland in the C16 [1500s] with his brother in a private yacht. He married an R.C. [Roman Catholic] Miss Blake of Gortnamona [in County Galway], & was disavowed." [2]
If related to Sir Thomas Moore, Martin Moore could not be an ancestor, because Sir Thomas's family were more recently from Scotland.
John Moore was said to have a son named John around 1770-1780, which would be John O Moore.
John O Moore's middle name would be Ogle.
John O Moore's son named Lawrence would be a variation of his brother Lorenzo.
Dr Mills makes a random note of Lieutenant Ogle Moore in his genealogy notebook, suggesting that he was also considering a connection. ("Lieut Ogle Moore, R.N. was dead in 1878 & had left 545 acres in Wexford."[2])
Both had grandchildren that emigrated to Australia.
Against:
Unknown Moore's son, John O Moore, has no known connection to Wexford.
John O Moore's initial "O" is unsourced from Dr Mills, who is not always reliable.
John O Moore has no recorded children named George or William, which were common names in John Moore's family.
Considering that Captain John O Moore had a similar career to Lieutenant Ogle Moore, it is surprising that they would not be mentioned anywhere as brothers.
While John Moore is said to have had a son John, there is no mention of a daughter Anna (John O Moore's sister).
John Moore's family were anti-Catholic, but many of John O Moore's descendants were Catholic.
