Biography

According to John Littell, John Moore "lived near Patterson" in the Passaic Valley and had children:

  • 1. Tabitha, who married Jacob Smalley, son of John Smalley, Sen.
  • 2. Isaac, married, 1st, Sally Smalley, daughter of John Smalley, Sen., 2d, Lydia Bedell, daughter of Moses, and grand-daughter of David Littell.
  • 3. John, Jun. married and lived near Patterson, and from thence removed to the Lakes....[1]

According to James W. Moore, John Moore lived in Somerset County, NJ and died in 1833. His son Isaac was born in Somerset County, NJ, in 1752 and married 1st, Sarah Smalley, the daughter of John Smalley of Warren Township, Somerset County, NJ, and 2nd, Lydia Bedell, daughter of Moses Bedell and "grandaughter of David Bedell, private and minute man during the Revolution, made freeholder April 25, 1790.[2]

James Snell mentions John Moore as the father of Isaac Moore, who lived in the Pasaaic Valley. [3]

A John Moore served as a private in Captain Mott's New Jersey company during the Revolutionary War. [4]

A John Moore, Jr. is named on a petition, dated ca. 1784, to the Legislative Council from the freeholders and inhabitants of Essex and Middlesex Cos.[5]

This John Moore may have belonged to the Old First Dutch Reformed Church at Acquackanonk (Pasaaic), New Jersey. His daughter, Tabitha Moore, married Jacob Smalley in that church 3 Nov 1781. [6]

A John Moor married Sarah Boss on 17 Feb 1776 in Acquackanonk (Passaic), New Jersey. [7], [8]

A John Moore of Acquackanonk Twsp, Essex Co. mentioned in his will, which was probated 30 Sep 1793, a wife, Sarah and sons Isaac, Joseph, Benjamin, John, Jonathan, Cornelius, and Jacob, [in order of birth] daughters Mary, Anna, and Tabitha [in order of birth]. [9]
