Biography

George William "Bill" Moore was born on Jun 25, 1922 in Cool Springs Township, Iredell County, North Carolina, USA. George was one of eight sons of William Wilson Moore and Lottie Blanche Bowman Moore. He married Sarah Kathleen Miller (1926-1961) on Dec 24, 1945 in Iredell County. Kathleen and Bill had one child, a daughter. After Kathleen's death Bill married Mary Lois Mahaffey (1930-2016). He died on Oct 30, 2000 in Statesville, Iredell County and is buried at New Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Iredell County.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Bill enlisted in the U.S. Regular Army on Jul 20, 1940 in Charlotte, North Carolina and served with the 4261st Quarter Master Battalion Truck Company during World War II in the European Theater--serving in Northern France, Ardennes, and Rheinland. He was a motor sergeant in the 4261st Quarter Master Truck Company and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served almost four years in the United States and one year, five months and five days of abroad. He returned to the United States on Nov 21, 1945 and was separated from service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on Nov 25, 1945. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-Africa-Middle Eastern Theater (EAMET) Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars and the Victory Medal. Bill and Kathleen had one child.

Bill and Mary Lois had one child.
