Biography

Meedy Bennett Williford's second wife was Penelope Joyner, and in the Nash County Census of 1850 some of their children were living in the family of Jonathan Joyner. (Page 588.)

Notes from Helen Sharpe: Penelope was first married to Meedy B. Williford Sr. He died in 1846. In 1850 Census the children of Meedy and Penelope were living with Jonathan. Elijah 11; Jane L. 9; Della 6; and Meedy Bennett 5. Della was born in 1843 and married William M. Daughtridge on 28 June 1859. Jonathan 65, Penelope 32; Ricks H. 20, Robert H. 16. Adlia 3/12 Appears in the Raleigh Archives Estate Records: 1868 Penelope filed for dower against Delia Batchelor wife of Redding Batchelor and Ricks Joyner heirs at law of husband. Nash County DB 14 page 450: Dated Nov Term 1846. Edgecombe County DB 25 page 142, dated 16 Jan 1849 Penelope Wiliford was widow of Meedy Williford, Dec. Absracts of Early Records of Nash County by Joseph Watson Nov Term 1846 Petition of Penelope Williford for dower. She was the widow of Meedy Williford, who died in 1846 leaving a will from which she dissented. The heirs at law were BLAKE WILLIFORD, JOSIAH B. WILLIFORD; SAMUEL MOORE (?) AND WIFE, MAY; JOHN PROCTOR and wife LUCINDA; ORREN P. DANIEL and wife MAHALA, all of full age.; and MATILDA WILLIFORD; ELIZABETH WILLIFORD, GRANBERRY V. WILLIFORD; ELIJAH WILLIFORD; S. THOMPSON WILLIFORD; DELLA WILLIFORD; MEEDY B. WILLIFORD, infants without guardian.
