Biography

Richard Moore was born on 12 September 1670 in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [1][2][3] He was the son of Jacob Moore and Elizabeth Loker. [1][3][2][4]

Richard, married Mary Collins, daughter of Samuel Collins and Mary Marvin. [1][2] Richard Moore and Mary Collins lived about 1695 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [3] He lived in Needham, Mass. at first, then his farm on 6 June 1714, and moved to Oxford. [2]

According to Daniels (1892) [2], "He was among the leading men of Oxford in its early history. He had ample means and was long the largest landholder in the south part of the town; the first justice of the peace in the vicinity and transacted a large part of the conveyancing, probate and other official business during the early years....He had force of character and great tenacity of purpose, and early had a controversy with the Oxford Church, the exact nature of which is not apparent, but yielded at last."

In 1715 he was licensed by Oxford as an innholder, which he ran for many years afterwards. [2] Richard Moore served between 1715 and 1734 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts, as the Town Clerk. [2]

He served between 1715 and 1741 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts, as a Selectman. [2] He served in 1721 as the Representative to the Massachusetts General Court. [2] He served between 1721 and 1729 as Town Treasurer for Oxford. [1][2]

He and Abigail Roper were guardian on 12 May 1732 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Richard Moore and Hannah Roper were guardian on 12 May 1732 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Richard Moore and Ruth Roper were guardian on 12 July 1732 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Richard Moore and Ephraim Roper were guardian on 11 August 1732 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [1]

Richard Moore died on Thursday, 19 November 1767 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts, at age 97 years, 2 months and 7 days. [2]

The death location can't be completely correct. The biography details show Oxford, Mass. while the profile shows "Oxford, Fairhaven, Bristol County, Mass." of which there is no such place. Fairhaven, Mass. didn't even exist in 1767. It was still part of Dartmouth, and Oxford is in southern Worcester County.
