In 1784 the Quakers declared that their members must free their slaves or they would be dismissed. The Moormans who freed their slaves left for Ohio along with most of the Quakers in Campbell and Bedford Counties. The Quakers who didn't leave mostly became Methodists. In 1812, the Moorman family were among the founders of White's Methodist Church in Campbell County.
