The following entiries were obtained from the Hotten book from the Musters of the Inhabitants in Virginia 1624/1625 chapters, pages 201 thru 265, which lists the muster captain, and what ship the individual arrived on.

1621 Voyage: Moreland, Thomas, 1621 voyage, aged 19 at muster, Elizabeth City, servant to John Haney. (Space: Abigail, sailed 1620-1622)

1621 There was a Thomas Morland, age 19, who arrived in James City, VA on the Abigail as a servant to John Haney. Inhabitant of Elizabeth Citie Co., age 22 living on Buck's Row Plantation and is a servant to John Haney in the Census of Virginia after the 1622 Indian attack. Adventurers of Purse and Person, VA page 68.

August 29, 1637 Charles River County page 475 Capt. Robert Felgate, 250 acs. E. upon land of Capt. John Wst, N. upon the Gleabland, N. by W. upon the land of John Waine, W. by S. into the woods and S. upon the land of William Barber. Due for the adv. of himself & 4 personal the first year to the said plantation of Charles River: Erasmus Felgate, Robert Syler, Mary Mooreland, Henry Thorne. Aug. 10, 1642 York Co., VA. the land grant to Thomas Morland for the 100 acres of land on Capt. John West's Creek in York Co., adjacent to William Sawyer, due for the advance of himself and Christopher Browne to Chiskiacke the first year. Cavaliers and Pioneers page 132. LC

1645 Thomas Morland witnessed a deed in York Co.

1645 Court judgement: Thomas Morley have attachment against the estate of Lt. Nicholas Steelwill for debt of 929 lb. tobacco in regard is gone for Maryland to live. LC

1646 Court judgement: The lands and plantation of Lieutenant Nicholas Steelwill to be appraised as to what it be yearly worth by William Barber. Thomas Borne, John Hansford and Elias Richardson. That Thomas Morland to have receipts till paid 929 lb. tobacco. Parties to be sworn by Mr. Francis Morgan. LC

1662 York Co., VA Deeds, etc. page 357. Settlement of estate of John Hansford ordered Thomas Moreland, William Barber and William Townsend to make a fair division among the four orphans of their father's personal property.Also says "To my godson John Morley, son to my neighbor Thomas Morley..." LC

1662, Oct. 24 John Shelton in York County ordered to serve his master one whole yeare after expiration of his indenture according to Act of Assembly for useing threatening speeches to his master Thomas Morley (Moreland) and striking his overseer, his master's son William. Tyler's Q Vol. 1, Issue 4, page 273. LC

January 28 1663 Thomas Moreland bought 400 acres in New Kent County, VA from Richard Scruggs for a sum in hand. (His son William sells 100 of the 400 acres in 1665 to Robert Shore after his father's death). LC

As Mr. Wyatts stated, he did inquire who enjoined an arrow against him and I told him of Indians of his in Pomunkey, named in M E Wyatts sister of Isle of Amarow, whom upon he fell into a passion so he assailed his olde dogg and Groaned. He would spend 500 pounds but he could and Anthony Wyatt Tobacco 200 goods out of his ship and say no more. signed Thomas Moreland. LC

The origin of the name Moreland is English. The Ancient Coat of Arms contains Black with three leopards faces within fleur de lis. The Crest is A man in armour holding a gold baton. Index gives 3 references of 1621 as Thomas' arrival in Virginia. Nugent's Cavaliers and Pioneers pp 180 and 181 lists Thomas MORELAND as an owner of 100 acres on the Charles River Co., 5 Mar 1648. " In Chiskyake, butting upon Capt. WESTS Cr., on N. side with land of William SAYOR and on S. side with the master branch of Capt. WESTS Cr. The sd. land being granted to Elizabeth BAYLY in her right and her husbands as 2 of the first adventures to seat upon Charles River and by the sd. BAYLY assigned to Ellis BROWN and by sd. BROWN assigned unto William REYNOLDS and by REYNOLDS to Robert CAGER, and by sd. CAGER to sd. MORLAND." A map in this volume shows the location of Thomas MORELAND's property.
