Biography

There are not many records on Media Morgan to give us clues as to her birth, life, and death. We know that she married David Ivey, and that her father was John Morgan. In "The Line of Adam Ivey" [1] genealogist Robert Baird has generously shared years of research. He mentioned Media as the wife of David.

"He is apparently the David Ivey who married Media Morgan: In 1779, John Morgan made a deed of gift of land to “my loving son in law David Ivey” and “my daughter Media Ivey wife of said David Ivey”, with reversion to their son Lovell Ivey,"

Although this profile states that Media was born about 1750, it is only a guess. Since husband, David, was born in 1750, since she married in about 1772, and her first child was born in 1773, we can only take a wild guess at her birth year. Probably she was born between 1750-and 1757. So far, there are no records turning up to tell us when she died, but it would have been after 1780 (the birth of her last child).

The children found by the above researchers include:

  • Lovell Ivey (29 Nov 1773-??) his birth was recorded on the Albemarle Parish Register. He was Christened on April 10, 1774. Lovell married Fanny Morgan on 28 Dec 1796 in Johnstone County. (designated 5.1.7.1. in Baird's work)
  • Peyton Ivey (30 April 1775 – ca1817) He married Viney Avera on 27 November 1804. On 12 August 1817 Myrick Ivey, orphan of Peyton Ivey, aged 12, was bound to Hartwell Ivey. (designated 5.1.7.2.in Baird's work)
  • David Ivey (c1780-82? – 1840s?) born in Johnston County, North Carolina. Married Rachel Jones 9 Aug 1805 in Johnston County .(designated 5.1.7.3.in Baird's work)
  • Harbard Ivey (c1780? – c1840?) born in Johnston County, North Carolina (designated 5.1.7.4.in Baird's work)
  • Myrick Ivey (c1780 – aft1860) born in Johnston County, North Carolina. (designated 5.1.7.5.in Baird's work)

Children of David & Media Ivy, listed in William & Mary Quarterly, [2] included Peyton b. 30 Apr 1775 and Lovell, b 29 Nov 1773.

Notes

A woman named Elizabeth Ivey Ricketts was attached to this profile as a "child" of David and Media. No records have been found to show that, so the profile has been removed.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Media by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Media:
