Biography

John Morgan was born about 1675. By the time John was old enough to marry, he had settled in Hampton, New Hampshire. He first married Deborah Blake, on the 18th of July 1700, in Hampton.[1][2] John and Deborah had at least five children together: Luther,[3] Joana,[4] John Jr,[5] Timothy[6] and Anna.[7]

In 1706, when John was trying to expand and support his family, the men of Hampton faced multiple difficulties. Men out performing their duties were slaughtered, or carried away, by Indians.[8] A 'fruitless expedition' was carried out against Port Royal.[8] Much of the frontier town was exposed, and the inhabitants discouraged.[8] John served in Captain Samuel Chesley's company, in defense of the colony.[8] He was one of the men that stayed and performed their duties; not deserting from discouragement.[8]

John's wife Deborah died by the year 1723, as he remarried to Mary Dearborn. Their first child, Mary Morgan, was born on the 11th of November 1723.[9] John and Mary had at least three more children together. This would have brought their family size to eleven. By the time their last child was born, Most of the children from his first marriage would have been out on their own.

John died at the home of his brother Abraham in Stratham on September 29, 1745.
