Thomas was born in 1821 toWilliam Morgan and Ann Morgan in the county of Monmouthshire, Wales, United Kingdom.

Thomas was baptised^[1]on 2 September 1821 in the parish of Llanvetherine, Monmouthshire. The family resided in Gelli and the occupation of his father William Morgan was noted as a Farmer.

The March 1851 census^[2]shows Thomas living with his father William Morgan, a self employed Farmer with ninety eight acres and employing one man, mother Ann Morgan, brother Henry and William Snell, a Servant Farmer's Labourer in Caudle Farm, Newland, Gloucestershire, England.

Thomas married^[3][4]Jane Morgan on 27 December 1851 in the parish of Newland, Gloucestershire, England and was registered in Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales. Thomas resided in Caudle Farm, Newland at the time of the wedding and his occupation was a Farmer.

The April 1861 census^[5]shows Thomas, with his wife Jane Morgan, sons Edwin Morgan and John, daughters Clara Morgan, Eva and Lydia Morgan and House Servant Harriet Clarke living in Mill End House, Newland, Gloucestershire.
