Biography

Birth
Samuel Morgan was born in 1660 in Beverly, Massachusetts to parents Samuel Morgan and Elizabeth Dixie Morgan.

The marriage of Samuel's parents would have been in the midst of the Salem witchcraft trials, which took place between February 1692 and May 1693. During that time, as Rev. Cotton Mather stirred the public into a frenzy, fifty-five men and women confessed to being witches. Nineteen were hanged. One man who refused to testify was pressed to death under stones which were gradually piled higher and higher until his chest collapsed. Finally Governor Phips ordered an end to the trials.

Marriage and Children
Samuel Morgan married Sarah Herrick, 22 December 1692 at Beverly, Essex county, Massachusetts. [1] [2] They had the following known children:

Early service in the French and Native American Wars
Samuel served as a sergeant in the French and Indian Wars. (Ref.___)

The two conflicts in the time of Samuel Morgan were King William's War, 1690 to 1697, and Queen Anne's War, 1701 to 1713. There were really a series of at least four wars pitting the French and their Indian allies in Canada against the British and their colonists. They continued intermittently for seventy years.

Occupation and Residency
In civilian life Samuel worked as a weight checker at the seaport at Marblehead. (Ref.___)

Death
Samuel died 1 November 1700 based upon the Beverly Town Records for Birth, Marriages and Deaths [Samuel Morgan & Sarah Herrick Morgan Family]. [3]

Sarah remarried in 1702 to Thomas Whittredge, with whom she had two more children.
