Mary (Morgan) Magness was a North Carolina colonist.

Mary was born about 1766, possibly in North Carolina. Her parents are at this time unknown. She passed away in Greenville County, South Carolina, before 1800 when her husband, Samuel Magness, remarried.

Marriage & Children

Mary Morgan married Samuel Magness about 1784 in North Carolina, either Tryon or Rutherford County. Samuel married a second time by 1800 to Nancy Ragin in Greenville, South Carolina. No marriage records have yet been found. Samuel and Nancy Magness signed a deed on 22 January 1800, recorded in Greenville County, South Carolina (Deed Book E, Page 405).[1]

Some children attributed to Samuel; unconfirmed if they are Mary's children:

  • David Magness, b 1785 [possible, unconfirmed]
  • James Magness, 1789-1872
  • Joseph Magness, 1790-bef 1850
