On July 18, 1859, A.P. Hill married Kitty ("Dolly") Morgan McClung, a young widow. A.P. Hill became the brother-in-law of future Confederate cavalry generals John Hunt Morgan (A.P. Hill's best man at the wedding) and Basil W. Duke. [1]

Immediate Family:

Catherine Kitty ("Dolly") Morgan McClung was the daughter of Calvin Cogswell Morgan, Sr. and Henrietta Morgan.[2]

Catherine Kitty ("Dolly") Morgan McClung was the wife of Calvin Morgan McClung; Lt. Gen. Ambrose Powell Hill, (CSA) and Alexander Roth Forsythe, M.D.[3]

Research Notes

Catherine Kitty ("Dolly")'s mother was Mary Charlton Grosh, daughter of Arthur Charlton and Eleanor Harrison. Mary Charlton (31 Jan 1749/50) married Peter Grosh bef. 1772. One of Mary's sisters, Ann Phoebe Penn Dagworthy Charlton, was wife of John Ross Key and mother of Francis Scott Key. Francis's sister Ann Arnold Phoebe Key was wife of Roger Brooke Taney, the Supreme Court justice who wrote the constitutionally correct but unpopular Dred Scott decision.

The Charltons were connected through marriages and proximity to historic figures in PA, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, KY and TN, including President Andrew Jackson. [2024-02-08 Per private message from Barbara Williams to Richard Jordan Profile Manager.]
