Biography

Sarah "Sally" Morgan was born about 1801 in Moore County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Joseph George Morgan, Sr. and Drucilla Cheesman. After 1810, Joseph moved his family to Wilcox County, Alabama.

About 1824 Sally married Nathan James Sheffield, Sr. in Wilcox County, Alabama. The date is based upon the birth date of their eldest child. A source is needed to confirm the exact date of their marriage. Their children were:

  • Martha Ann Sheffield (1826-?) m. Thomas H. Johnson (1823-1872)
  • Nathan James Sheffield, Jr. (1831-1892) m. (1)Ann Elizabeth Nelson (1838-1904) and (2) Harriet Eugenia Henderson (1852-1934)
  • Joseph Sheffield (1836-1857)
  • Ann Elizabeth Sheffield (1839-~1870) m. James Morgan (1829-?)
  • James G. Sheffield (1842-1862)

In 1830 the Sheffield family were still living in Wilcox County, but by 1840 they had moved to St. Clair County. James passed away in 1842. Sally administered his will in Wilcox County and must have moved her children back there.

On 1 Feb 1849 Sally married Joseph DeWitt in Wilcox County, Alabama. They had no children that I could find. The two children mentioned in the 1850 Census were Sally's youngest children by Nathan Sheffield. Sally passed away there after 1860. Family records state that she was buried in the same cemetery as her parents, Enon Cemetery, which is located in Pine Hill, Wilcox County, Alabama. There is no memorial for her listed there in Find-A-Grave. A Joseph Dewitt was buried there, but he is not her husband.

Morgan-26151 and Morgan-7899 appear to represent the same person because: Both profiles have the same parents.
Morgan-7904 and Morgan-7899 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these two profiles represent the same person. The birth and death dates on Morgan-7899 are incorrect and are identical to the birth and death dates of her father Joseph George Morgan - Morgan-7895. The dates on Morgan-7904 are correct.
