Biography

John Morley was born in 1823 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex. He was baptised 2 March 1823 in the Parish Church, Hurstpierpoint.

John married Eliza Sinden on 17 September 1848 in Hurstpierpoint. They had seven children:

  1. Elizabeth 1849–1854
  2. William 1851–1853
  3. Mary Jane 1854–1858
  4. Harriet Anne 1856–1858
  5. Lizzie 1859–1899
  6. Anne 1861–1946
  7. John William George 1864–1888

In 1853 John Morley and Eliza and their two children, Elizabeth aged 3 and William aged 1, emigrated to Australia. They sailed on the ‘Ida‘, arriving in Melbourne on 12 July. John was an agricultural labourer; the family was from Sussex.

John died on 9 November 1888 in Victoria at the age of 65, and was buried in Brighton, Victoria.[1]
