Biography

Elizabeth married William Moffatt in Cow Bay, Nova Scotia on November 23, 1881[1].

At the time of the 1891 Canada Census, Palmer, Elizabeth, Horace M., and Ethal G. Moffatt were listed as living in Leitche's Creek, Nova Scotia, along with James, Agnes, and Branch Moffatt[2].

Research Note

This Elizabeth Morely was born to William and Mary Morley. She married Moffat. The other Elizabeth Morley born to William and Octavia Morley married James Howie.

Original set up as parent of Ethel Moffat who is the child of Elizabeth and William Moffat. Profile was orphaned then adopted and incorrect parents were added. Removed parents William Morley and Octavia (Armstrong) Morley. Added parents Henry (Morley) Morely and Mary (Banks) Morley and then set up merge again.

William Henry Morley may have been born in Bas Quebec, or arrived there. In Census records he appears as William and William H. However, in his Family Bible he refers to himself as Henry. There was a second William Henry Morley in Cape Breton at the time, so he may have opted to go by his middle name to avoid confusion. However, this has led to great difficulty in identifying him, but I trust the Bible records more than the Census takers who listed my Great Uncle Horace Morley Moffatt as Horace Morty Moffatt for years!

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:
