Biography

Mawd was a daughter and co-heiress of Sir John Morley of Llansanffraid, Llan-arth Fawr, Monmouthshire, Wales. There is no record of her birth, but it probably occurred about 1370.[1]

She was the wife of Thomas ap Gwilym ap Jenkin ab Adam.[1] They were married about 1392 in Raglan Castle (Castell Rhaglan), Monmouth, England.[citation needed] (A merged profile said that they were divorced, with no citation, but I can find no evidence of a divorce. Watt-266 19:39, 9 April 2015 (EDT)) Boyer assigns only William definitively as the child of Mawd,[2] but the FamilySearch Welsh database assigns 10 children to her:[1]

  • Sir William Thomas of Raglan
  • Philip of Llansanffraid
  • Robert, rector of Llanfihangel Cwm Du and Llanwenarth
  • Mawd, (possibly m. Gwilym of Tyle-glas ap Philip)
  • Hywel
  • Hywel Fychan
  • Margred, m. William Wroth
  • Tudful, m. Gwilym ap Hywel Hen
  • Hywel y Bwlch
  • Dafydd

Mawd died in 1438 at Raglan Castle, Monmouthshire, England.[citation needed] She is buried at Llansanffraid, Llan-arth Fawr, Monmouthshire, Wales[1]. A merged file said that she was buried at St. Bride’s Chapel, Llan-Arth, Monmouthshire.[citation needed]

update - profile detached from his grandparents & attached as son of ap Thomas-10

I intend to detach the profile for son John - Herbert-201. He was the son of her son's mistress. (See John's profile.)

Maud was eight when her son William was born. Does one of those birth year estimates need to be adjusted?
