Edith Morrison was the daughter of Col. Francis Morrison (b. 1608 in Cassiobury House, Watford, Hertfordshire, England) who emigrated to Virginia as a young man. There he married a woman whose identity remains unknown and they had a daughter, Edith, on May 8, 1631, in an area that would later become Albemarle County, Virginia; at that time it was Henrico Shire of the British colony of Virginia. An old alternate spelling of this surname is "Moryson" but most records cite "Morrison".
Edith Morrison met and married Cornelius Dabney (aka Daubney, d'Aubigné) in 1653 in New Kent County, Virginia and their first child, James Dabney, was born there in May 1657.[1]
In June 1678, Cornelius Dabney wrote a letter to his father-in-law in which he states that his wife would gladly send one of their (younger) sons to him (Colonel Morrison) in England, in a year or two. Unfortunately, Col. Morrison seems to have died about 1679. We do not know exactly when Edith (Morrison) Dabney died but it was after June 1678 and before Cornelius Dabney's marriage to Susanna (Unknown) in about 1682. Susannah Dabney's first child, Cornelius Dabney II, was born in April 1683.[2]
