Biography

William T. Rankin and Hattie G. Morrison were married on 29 November 1877 in Montgomery County, Ohio. J.H. Montgomery, minister of the Gospel, officiated.^[1]

In 1880, the Rankin family lived on Fulton Street in Keokuk, Lee, Iowa. The household included Will F. Rankin, 25, born in Iowa, an attorney; his wife, Harriet, 23, born in Ohio; their daughter, Louise, 1, born in Iowa; and a servant, Lena Ketterer, 17.^[2]

In 1885, the Rankin family lived at 207 Morgan St., Keokuk, Iowa. The family included William T. Rankin, 30, a lawyer; his wife, Harriet, 28, born in Ohio; their daughters, Louisa M., 5; Lida H., 4; Edith, 2; and Greta, an infant. Also living with them were Julia Kelley, 25; and housekeeper, Eleanor McGugin, 75.^[3]

In 1900, the Rankin family lived at 4917 Forestville Avenue, Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois. All members of the household were born in Iowa, except as noted. The household included William T. Rankin, 45, born in June 1855, a lawyer; his wife of 22 years, Harriet, 44, born in Ohio in Sept. 1856, who had had four children, all living; their daughters, Lida, 19, b. Dec. 1881; Edith F., 17, b. Sept. 1883, in school; and Greta H., 15, b. July 1885, in school. Also living with them was a servant, Jennie Mulrooney, 23, b. Dec 1877 in Ireland.^[4]

In 1910, the Rankin family lived on their farm in Rivianna, Albemarle, Virginia. They owned their property without a mortgage. The family included William Rankin, a farmer, 56; his wife of 34 years, Harriet, 54, who had had four children, all of whom were living; their daughter, Edith, 26, born in Iowa; a cook, Georgianna Bennet, 55, a widow; and a house servant, Bella Cole, 22.^[5]

Harriet Guest (Morrison) Rankin was born in Ohio in 1856, the daughter of David Humfreville Morrison (1817-1882) and Harriet J. Skinner (1821-1898). She married William Thomasson Rankin. Harriet died in 1934, aged 78, in Charlottesville, Charlottesville, Virginia, and is buried with her husband and two daughters, and other family, at Riverview Cemetery, Charlottesville, VA.^[6]
