Research Note by Genealogist of Clan Sutherland

The Christian name Catherine has many spellings. However on her portrait in Dunrobin Castle, she is named as Katherine Morison. In addition in the Sutherland muniments, that section dealing with her papers 578-624 is headed "Katherine, Lady Strathnaver"

Morrison-3974 and Morrison-751 appear to represent the same person because: I'm always confused why people 'delay' merges for months - this was a puzzle but certainly not the most complicated. Anyways, I untwisted the parents of everyone and these profiles look almost identical now. NB. c.1720 the 16th Earl (Catherine's father-in-law) changed their surname to Sutherland from Gordon, so people born before that for WT purposes were LNAB Gordon.

Morrison-3974 and Morrison-751 are not ready to be merged because: William Gordon, Lord Strathnevar, had one child, as far as I can ascertain, William, 17th Earl of Sutherland, who was the father of Willaim, 18th Earl, and Elizabeth Gordon, who married James Wemyss. See lord Strathnevar's bio in History of Parliament: the House of Commons 1690-1715, D. W. Hayton. This is contradicted in Morrison-751 where Lady Strathnevar is said to be the mother of the 18th earl rather than the 17th

Morrison-751 and Morrison-3696 appear to represent the same person because: William is Ann's brother.
