Biography

Richard was born 17 Feb 1808 in Buncombe County, North Carolina. He married Polly Tomlinson in Cole County, Missouri, in Feb 1831 (the record was recorded on Feb 7).

They remained in Cole County for several years before moving to Grayson County, Texas. The 1840 census shows a male and a female 30-39, 1 male and 1 female 5-9, and 1 male and 2 females 0-5.

They lived in Grayson County until about 1855, when they moved to Fort Scott, Kansas.

In 1857, the household contained 4 males and 4 females. In 1859, the household was identified as Richard, wife, daughter over 21, and 4 minors, for a total of 7 people. Richard's wife, Mary, died of consumption in Nov 1859. Daughters Jane and Elizabeth were widowed during the Civil War. Daughter Elsie and son-in-law Anderson Keeney both died in 1862. By 1865, Richard's household contained his unmarried children, his widowed daughters and their children, and his orphaned grandchildren. He released the guardianship of his grandchildren in 1873, when he moved from the county.

He passed away in 1886.

Notes

Richard's birth date is noted in copied pages of an 1832 Bible, which were included in the Greg Morrow book cited below. The Births column is headed by "The following is the dates of the births of the children of James Morrow & Sally his wife."

There is at least one Ancestry tree that says his middle name is Benjamin. None of the records of this Richard give even a middle initial. The family Bible quoted above doesn't give a middle name either.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Richard:
