Biography

William P MORROW I was born about 1734 in Ireland. He passed away 13 Nov 1807 in Saxapahaw, Alamance, North Carolina, United States.

William /Morrow/[1]

WILLIAM MORROW, SR. was born in Ireland in 1734. The Morrow Ancestrial Line is said to have migrated from Scotland to Ireland to Holland then fled from religious persecution to America. Some believe the Morrow Family first settled in Pennsylvania then migrated to Orange County, North Carolina (Oaks Post Office) around 1765. This account has been supported by the 1850 census which documents William Morrow Jr. was born in Pennsylvania, and a 1930 letter documenting family history information. However, William Jr's older siblings are all documented as born in North Carolina, which would suggest that the family settled in North Carolina first, went to Pennsylvania, then returned to North Carolina.

Family tradition also states that William Morrow Sr. baked a bible in a loaf of bread to prevent it from being destroyed by persecutors then the bread was removed when he arrived safely in America.

William Morrow Sr. married Jane Parks circa 1750 in Pennsylvania, and this is supported by the couple being named in Jane's father's Will. Warrington Township, York County Pennsylvania Register of Wills, John Parks Last Will & Testament, Proved: August 6, 1777. Jane and William had SIX children during their marriage.

Children:

  • Margaret Morrow-Bryan (?-?),
  • Elizabeth Morrow-Andrews (1752-?),
  • Jane Morrow-Pickhard (1754-?),
  • John Morrow (1756-?),
  • James Morrow (1757-?), and
  • William P Morrow II (1767-1852).

William Morrow's Orange Co. will, dated Feb 1807 (Will Book D-189) mentions the following children: William, James, Elizabeth ANDREWS, Margat BRYAN, Jane PICKARD, and deceased son John.

"RCasey.net: 'Bryan Family History; BryChart... William is the son of Daniel Morrow (born 1705) and Diana Morrow (born 1709). [But, see below.] William Morrow married Jane Parks. Jane was born around 1739 and was from Prince Edward County, Virginia. William Morrow and Jane (Parks) Morrow were the parents of five children:

*William Morrow, Jr., b. April 15, 1767, Orange County, North Carolina *James Morrow, b. 1767, Fayetteville, North Carolina *John Morrow, b. 1756, Fayetteville, North Carolina *Elizabeth Morrow, b. January 27, 1752, Fayetteville, North Carolina *Jane Morrow, b. 1754, Fayetteville, North Carolina

The Ancestral File and World Connect Project include siblings of William Morrow (born 1739) as well as additional ancestors of William Morrow (born 1739). Research of these siblings and ancestors is currently considered beyond the scope of this publication (until the connection between Margaret Morrow and Samuel Bryan can be better verified and the family of William Morrow and Jane (Parks) Morrow can be more thoroughly verified. Obviously, there are conflicting dates in the above accounts and two children that are missing from the will of William Morrow. ...'"[2]

Research Notes:

The Date of birth for William is unsourced. The current guess of before 1734 is established by the marriage to Jane Parks about 1750 and the birth dates of the listed children and matches within FAG date and sources listed.

There is a book, (Lester, Alderidge & Shields, Ruth, 1958), without references that states the Morrow surname descended from Milesius a king of Spain centuries before the Christian era, through his son Heremon who became the first absolute ruler of Ireland. Heremon landed by ship at the mouth of Boyne. He ruled for 15 years and was burried at what is presently known as the county of Kilkenny on the banks of Nore. The document goes on to state that the Morrow surname was traced by "Irish authorities" directly to Haiseada, King of Ireland 144 AD & son of Catherine Moore.

DNA

A descendant of William's son William joined the Morrow DNA project, and the results are inconsistent with William being the son of Daniel Morrow m. Diana. While YDNA results do not definitively prove descent, William's descendant matches a descendant of Robert Morrow m. Sally Vincent and does not match the nearly dozen members of the project who can trace descent from families connected to Daniel.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

William Morrow I (where did the P come from?) is not the son of Daniel Morrow and Diana White (Morrow). There is DNA proof these are different families.
