Biography

Noah was born on 4/20/1681 in Sherborn, Massachusetts to Daniel Morse Jr and Elizabeth Barbour.[1] He is a great grandson of Samuel Morse, who immigrated with his wife and children from England to the Massachusetts Colony and became a leader there.

Noah married twice, being widowed by his first wife. According to North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000,[2] he had four children with each wife, but doesn't name them.

He married first Mary Johnson (3/11/1691-11/1/1712), daughter of Nathaniel Johnson and Abigail May, on 7/22/1705 in Sherborn, Massachusetts.[3] They had 4 children:

  1. Jemima;
  2. Hepzibah Mason (4/2/1708-10/20/1784);[4]
  3. Experience; and
  4. Cyprain.[5]

Mary died on 11/1/1712[6] and Noah later remarried to Abigail Gleason on 11/4/1714.[7] He had 4 children with Abigail, however only 3 names are known and 1 surviving his death:

  1. Abigail (7/9/1716-10/13/1716);[8][9]
  2. Noah (8/21/1717-by 1719);[10] and
  3. Abigail (1/5/1719-3/15/1805).[11]

Noah left a will (see photos) which states in part "...the deceased leaving five children viz: four by another Venter (Mary Johnson) and one by yourself (Abigail Gleason) viz: Jemima, Hepzibah, Experience, Cyprian, and Abigail." Noah died around June of 1718 at 37 years old. His will was probated in 1719 which lists his first 4 children with Mary Johnson, plus his other daughter Abigail.
