Biography

John was born in 1730. He died in 1810 at the age of 80.

Parents: William Morton 1686 - 1747 and Ann (Batchelder) Morton 1688 - 1748.

Spouse: Sarah (Hawkins) Morton 1736 - 1826. They were married about 1749. Findagrave #87043169 Note on her page says maiden name is not certain.

Children: Listed on his Findagrave page. FamilySearch seems to have too many listed compared to how many are listed on Findagrave. Needs research.

Will of John Morton of Woodford, Kentucky. 4/21/1807. Names: Wife, Sarah (whole of estate during widowhood). Daughter, Lucy Haydon. Daughter, Ann Rucker. Francis Watts. (only person named without specific stated relationship) Granddaughter, Lucy Morton, dau of William Morton. Sons: James, Jeremiah, John, Benjamin, William, and Thomas. Executors: Wife and sons, Jeremiah and William. Witness: Spencer Gill, George Hufford, William Christopher. Other reading of witness as "George Hubbard" Probate October Court, 1810. Woodford County, Kentucky Will Book C, Pages 282 - 283.

The Rucker Family Genealogy. By Sudie Rucker Wood. Old Dominion Press, Inc. Part III. Auxiliary Lines. Pages 326 - 327: Includes John and Sarah Morton and cites information from their Woodford County, Kentucky wills. There he was listed as "John Morton." On page 18, John and Sarah's daughter, Ann / Nancy Morton, was listed as the first wife of James Rucker and as a daughter of John H. Morton. No source is listed for the initial thus this is a secondary source. It is the only reference found listing a middle initial for John Morton. No primary source/original record has been located in which a middle initial or middle name was listed for this John Morton.
