"Matthias Mårtensson, born in 1669, was married in 1690 to Anna, daughter of Johan Gustafsson and Brita Månsdotter. He built a log cabin at the Morton Homestead, adjacent to his father's. Matthias' cabin is the oldest log cabin still standing in America today. He inherited the Morton Homestead property with the duty to care for his father and stepmother, but died in December 1708. His widow and children moved to New Castle County, where Anna married [2] the widower Jonas Walraven, and [3] the widower Charles Springer."[2]

"Mathias Martonson, 2nd son of Mârton Mârtonson (otherwise Mortonson and Morton), was of Amosland, yeoman. His descendants assumed the name of Morton. Deed, 1703, 24 May. Mârton Mârtonson to Mathias Mârtonson (otherwise Morton), his son, for 350 acres of land, which the grantor had by deed from Andrew Jansen, 12 Mar, 1694-5. Mathias died intestate before 15 March 1717-18."[3]

I too think that Morton-2032 (Mårtensson) and Mårtensson-419 should be merged as they have the same DOB and DOD. Both refer to Matthias Mårtensson who established the "Morton Homestead." They appear to have the same children as well.

Morton-2032 and Morton-1745 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate, same wife (her merge in progress)

Dodie, please reconsider rejecting this merge. These profiles do represent the same person, and his lineage was established by the Swedish Colonial Society. He is sourced and of historical interest. As he was a resident of New Netherland, I have asked about him here on g2g.

Morton-2032 and Mårtensson-419 do not represent the same person because: DOB and DOD does not match. Surname information is lacking and was only listed as Morton not Martensson which would be angelicized into Marten or Martin. Not Morton. It would have shown the correct Swedish surname to be Mortonsson.

Morton-2032 and Mårtensson-419 appear to represent the same person because: Peter Craig published a detailed genealogy of the family. Mårtensson is the correct LNAB because in 1669 when he was born, his Swedish parents were living under Dutch rule in New Sweden. Both cultures use patronymic naming patterns, as was their custom. After the English took New Netherland and gradually began colonizing the former New Sweden (when Matthias was a small child), the anglicized Morton came into use.
