Sarah was born in 1862. She passed away in 1936, and was buried at Stanton Cemetery, Stanton, Powell County, Kentucky.[1]
According to "The Morton Story", Sarah E. Morton was born in Missouri and was a daughter of John Morton and Elizabeth Shawley. Her father died in 1864. Apparently she was adopted in the 1870s by an Aunt, Margaret Morton Brink (1836-1921) and her husband Isaac L. Brink (1833-1912). She lived in Stanton, KY with her adoptive parents until her marriage in 1880 to James Sidney Ewen (1858-1929), a son of William Buchanon Ewen. The book goes on to state that Sarah and her husband James Ewen were "the owners of a funeral home in Stanton, where they lived. Their old two story combination home and funeral home remains intact and is located on Maple Street" (The Morton Story, by Lynn Douglas Morton, p. 21).[2]
