He enlisted in the Confederate Army in March of 1862 with his brothers Dennis and John H[3]. After being wounded in 1864, he was discharged.
On 31 May 1866, he married Laura Ann Gordon, in Montgomery County, Georgia[4][5]. They were first cousins, once removed. They settled in Montgomery County, where he was a farmer.
