Research Notes

Generation Skipped? It seems upon reading that Eleanor and Edward has a son who had a son who is the subject of this profile. Needs more research.[https://archive.org/details/williammarycolle02tyle/page/n61/mode/2up?q=Moss/ William and Mary College quarterly historical magazine by Tyler, Lyon Gardiner] Page 27.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Edward by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Edward:

Is Edward Moss-6215 (c. 1645 - prior 12/17/1716, both in York Co., VA) the same person as Edward Moss-171 (1637 Lancaster, England - 12/17/1716 Old Rappahannock?, York Co., VA)?

From Edward Moss-6215’s profile: "Edward Moss wrote his will in 1715 & it was proved the following year in York Co. In it he names his son Benjamin as his executor & mentions Benjamin's son, Benjamin, his grandson. Other children named were sons Wm & John; and daughters Elizabeth Tabb & Ann Phillips. Wm Armistead [William Ellison Armistead-122 (6/13/1671-1715 Eliz. City Co., VA0] was named as his son-in-law, with his wife Rebecca [Rebecca Moss-1024 (c.1672 - c. 1755); Rebecca Moss-5218 (1675-1758)] & their child, Moss Armistead. witness were John Chapman, Wm Gordon [William Gordon; connected to Lancaster Co., VA merchant James Gordon?], John Chisman & Edward Wright.”

Connection of John Miller (1736-1782) to James Miller (D-1656 York Co., VA) & Robert Miller (D-1693 Eliz. City Co., VA) via Edward Moss and Armisteads:

My 4th great grandfather, John Miller's (1736-1782) 2nd wife was Anne Armistead (1746-1772). Anne’s mother, Jane Moss was the granddaughter of Edward Moss (1637-1716). Jane Moss’ mother was Elizabeth Moore (1678-1737) whose father was the brother of Augustine Moore, Jr. (1650-c.1705, both in Eliz. City Co., VA). Robert Miller (D-1693) noted Augustine Moore, Jr. as his God-son in Robert Miller’s will.

Anne Armistead (1746-1772) was also related to Edward Moss (1637-1716) on her father’s side. Anne’s grandparents were William Armistead (1671-1715) & Rebecca Moss, the daughter of Edward Moss (1637 -1716).

Noted link below, Edward Moss, William Pattison, and John Hothersall appraised the estate of York Co., VA merchant, Johnathan Newell in 1672. James Miller, Jr. notes John Hothersall as one of the persons overseeing his will; and William Pattison (as “sonn”) is noted in James Miller, Sr.’s 1656 will (so I assume William Pattison may have married one of James Miller, Sr.’s daughters (sister to James Miller, Jr.).

Moss-4937 and Moss-171 appear to represent the same person because: I accidently made another profile for this person.
