The register says "no" not "an". The fact that no impediment was found suggests that the two profiles are not the right ones. If they had considered this then they cannot have been related as uncle and niece as the marriage would not have taken place since the Church forbade it.

Are you certain you have the right couple and parentage of the two individuals? The reason I ask is because William Pratley is Jemima Moss's uncle - he was the brother of her mother. As such the marriage would have been illegal.

Definitely not the only marriage I've encountered like that, the marriage occurred according to the official records, the question as I see it is are Jemima's parents on Wikitree the correct parents.

I've added more census and the census tables to William Pratley's profile. Is there a record of another Jemima Moss of the same age? Her age is consistent with being a niece.

Marriage between Uncle and niece was valid but voidable under state law (but invalid under Church law), if the marriage was annulled the child were reclassified as bastards and inheritance was lost. https://jasna.org/publications-2/persuasions-online/vol36no1/bailey/

The scanned copy of the Parish Register is interesting "an impediment being alleged"

While I have found others named Jemima Moss, the ages are significantly different, the closest is 10 years older.

Hi Sarah - Thanks for the note - I am not certain. I'll check with my mother who knows more than me :)
