Biography

In 1638, William Mostyn, clerk, was parson of Christleton, Cheshire.[1]

He married Elizabeth Aldersey by 5 March, 1638.[1] Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard Aldersey, son of William Aldersey, alderman of the city of Chester.[1]

On 5 March, 13 Charles I [1637-8], an lndenture was made between Thomas Trafford of Bridgtrafford, Cheshire, Esq, and Mary his wife, one of the daughters and coheirs of Richard Aldersey late of the city of Chester, gent, deceased, and William Mostyn, clerk, Parson of Christleton, Cheshire, and Elizabeth his wife, one other of the daughters and coheirs of Richard Aldersey, on the one part, and John Aldersey of Spurstowe, Cheshire, gent, on the other part, witnessing that soon after the death of William Aldersey late alderman of the city of Chester, father of the said Richard Aldersey and grandfather of the said Mary and Elizabeth, and according to William Aldersey's last will, a certain sum of money was delivered in trust to John Aldersey to be employed for the benefit of Mary and Elizabeth, then infants of tender age. John Aldersey purchased with the money in his own name of Robert Aldersey of Aldersey co. Chester, gent, two parcels of land in Middle Aldersey, Cheshire, then occupied by John Carden of Coddington, Cheshire, yeoman, declaring the purchase was made to the use of Mary and Elizabeth, their heirs and assigns for ever. John Aldersey lately accounted with Thomas Trafford and Mary his wife, and William Mostyn and Elizabeth his wife, for the money delivered to him, and gave them full satisfaction for it. Therefore Thomas Trafford and Mary his wife, and William Mostyn and Elizabeth his wife, have granted, remised, released, and confirmed to John Aldersey and his heirs, all the parcels of land, to have and to hold to him, his heirs and assigns for ever. Robert Hinton, gent, was appointed attorney to deliver seisin. Thomas Trafford and Mary Trafford signed the indenture, witnessed by Thomas Aldersey, Peter Ince and John Palin.[1]

On 29 September, 1638, William Mostyn, Rector of Christleton, gave a receipt to Thomas Aldersey of Spurstow, gent, for £46 10s, the balance of £86 10s which he had agreed to pay to William Mostyn for his wife's share of the lands in Aldersey purchased by Thomas Aldersey with trust moneys left by the will of her grandfather William Aldersey of Chester.[2]
