Biography

Abigail was a Friend (Quaker)

Abigail Mott was born in Cowbay, Long Island, NY. on 6 Aug 1795.^[1]She was married to Lindley Murray Moore at Promontory Point, the home of her maternal grandfather, James Mott, in Mamaroneck, Westchester, New York on 19 Aug 1813.^[2]The Moore's and the Mott's were prolific letter writers. An example is the letter that Lindley wrote to Abigail , shortly before they were married, expressing his longing to see her. ^[3][4][5]She died of consumption on 4 Sep 1846 in Rochester, Monroe, NY. Her obituary also mentions that she was the wife of Lindley M. Moore and was 51 years old when she died.^[6]She was buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Rochester, NY on 6 Sep 1846 close to the tombstones of her parents, Adam and Ann Mott. ^[7]

As with her brother James Mott, sister-in-law Lucretia Coffin Mott and other family members, Abigail put ink to paper and was published. Among her works:
