"Among the Richmond County officers appears the name of Captain Glendining (also spelled Glendening). This gentleman married Ann Mott(1661-1740) of the well known family of the brothers George and John Mott, large land owners in the Northern Neck, and both of whom died in Rappahannock County. John Mott died without issue. George Mott left four daughters, one of whom was Mrs. Ann (Mott) Glendening." Page 345 .
8 October 1675; 17 Jan 1677/8 MOTT, John of ye Parish of Sittingbourne in ye County of Rappa, Planter All my land to my four nieces Elizabeth, Margarett, Anne & Ellen Mott & their heires to be equally divided to them. Desires to be buried by his beloved brother George Mott To Ellen Pigg two cows and Calves. To my niece Ellen Mott a young mare. And it is my will that my nephew John Vickers shall hold and enjoy my Plantation wch I am now going to clear with soe much land as he shall have occasion to make use of (he making no wast of ye Timber but wch shall be for his necessary use about ye Plantation) Until ye first of January wich shall be in ye year of Or Lord one thousand six hundred eighty &five & then to Render it up to ye uses of my nieces aforesaid with all House & Fences which shall then be upon it in good Repaire & for my personal estate (after debts & legacies paid) to be equally divided betwixt my nephew John Vickers & my 4 nieces Elizabeth Margaret Anne and Ellen to be delivered to my nieces at ye age of 16 years or day of marriage wch shall first happen and if any of them shall die before, ye suvivor of them to their heires. Will dated September 16, 1733 of Ann Glendenning on pages 144-145 reads:
"In the Name of God Amen. I Ann Glendenning of Brunswick Parish in ye County of King George being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner and form following:
Lastly tis my will and desire that my loving son in law John Armstrong be and I do hereby appoint him whole and sole executor of this my Last Will Testament by me made Do own and acknowledge this my last will, hereby revoking all former Wills & Testaments. As Witness my hand this 16 day of September 1733.
At a Court held for King George County ye 6 Day of June 1740. The Last Will Testament of Ann Glendenning, Deceased, was presented into Court by John Armstrong her Executor who made oath thereto and the same was prov'd by the oaths of Henry McKie, John Booth and Thomas Armstrong and admitted to record.
