Biography

Elizabeth (Mott) Thurston immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Elizabeth Mott was born probably at Cambridge, England in 1629. She was the daughter of Adam Mott and his first wife Elizabeth Creel.[1]

An Elizabeth Mott, d/o Adam Mott, was baptized 28 Jun 1629, at St. Andrew-the-Great's, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.[2] This is approximately the same place Adam married his second wife, and the right time, but there are no corresponding records for brothers Jonathan and Adam and no burial for Elizabeth's mother.
Her Find A Grave: Memorial #23403277 says she was born 5 May 1629, but this date is otherwise unsourced. [3]

Elizabeth, age 6, with her father, step-mother and siblings embarked on the Defense 2 July 1635.[4]

Elizabeth Mott and Edward Thurston were married Jun 1647 according to minutes of the Rhode Island Friends meeting.[5][6]

Adam Mott, her father, died about 1661. His will named his daughter Elizabeth Thurston, wife of Edward. Adam left Elizabeth and Edward, each of them a ewe lamb. Edward was to receive his after the death of Adam's wife.[7]

Elizabeth and Edward brought up a large family, ensuring each of their children was well-educated. "Edward the Quaker was, as were his children, a man of education."[8]

Elizabeth Thurston died at Newport in 2 Sep 1694[9] and is buried at Coddington Burying-ground, Newport, Rhode Island, where her stone, although deteriorating is still recognizable.

I would like to change the birth date back to just 1629. Although there is a source for 5 May, I don't think the one record constitutes proof. Maybe if one of the brothers had a bpt. in the place, I would feel better about it. As it is, it's a definite possibility, but there just isn't enough evidence to prove the date. How do you managers feel about this change?
