Biography

Ruth was born in 1858. Ruth is the child of Johnson Moutray and Mary Almon.

Poseyville News dated December 31, 1943: Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Ann Compton, 85, wife of Augustus Compton, who died at her home in Stewartsville Saturday, were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Stewartsville Methodist church with the Christian minister, of Antioch, Ill., in charge. Aaron, Lloyd, Max and Charles Compton, Theron and Warren Geissler, grandsons, were pallbearers and the granddaughters and greatgranddaughters were flower girls. She had been seriously ill only a few days. Although she had suffered from a heart ailment for some time, pneumonia was the immediate cause of her death. Mrs. Compton was born in the vicinity of Pumpkin Run Feb. 17, 1858. She was united in marriage to Augustus Compson Sept. 17, 1880. They celebrated their 63 wedding anniversary last Sept. 17. She was fondly called "Aunt Ruth" by most of her acquaintances and was known as a good neighbor, generous and jolly. Surviving besides the husband are a daughter, Mrs. Ella Geisler, Stewarsville; two sons, Claude, Mt. Vernon and Clarence, Cowling, Ill., a sister, Mrs. Martha Caldwell; and 26 grandchildren. Burial was in the Stewartsville cemetery. ^[1]
