White Owl needs to be resolved. He can't be both a son of Moytoy I and the husband of Nancy, Moytoy's daughter. Adopted or not, he cannot marry his sister, so one of them is wrong. Only one source, Norton's 'Journal' which was written in the 1800's, says that he was an adopted Algonquin. Neither Brown nor Starr says anything about him. The 'Journal of Cherokee Studies' says in the bio of Attakullakulla "Nothing is known of his mother except that she was a sister of Old Hop.... Of his father, we know only that he was a chief...." Winter, 1978 p. 3 Based on this, which confirms 'Nancy's' family, he should be detached, with parents unknown

There is disagreement regarding disconnecting White Owl Raven. I am contacting Cheeokee historians to assist us with the Moytoy profiles. Thanks for your patience.

No objections here. White Owl (Raven is a title) cannot be the brother of Old Hop and 'Nancy,' Attakullakulla's mother. You cannot marry within your clan and the Cherokee therefore could not marry a sibling. The source which claims White Owl was adopted [Norton's 'Journal'] was written in 1809 well after the event.

Most sources report that White Owl Raven was adopted by the Cherokee tribe at one point and was not the biological child of these parents. Consistent with WikiTree standards, adopted children are not connected to the adoptive parents as biological children.

I propose that we disconnect White Owl Raven from Chief Amatoya Moytoy and Quatsy of Tellico.

Are there any objections to this?

Thank you,

Neither Brown nor Starr include any of this information. Brown says that Attakullakulla was known as White Owl in his youth. Starr makes no mention of Attakullakulla's family or youth.
