Peter Muhlenberg was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1768. In 1770 he married Anna Barbara "Hannah" Meyer, and the couple had six children. He was ordained in the Anglican Church in 1772, even though he served a Lutheran congregation, because this was required in the colony of Virginia.
Sept-Oct 1777 in the days when the patriot army of 30,000 men was camped in Skippack Twp., before attempting to take back Philadelphia...General Peter Muhlenberg, at Pennypacker's Mill, wrote in his diary that Washington had ordered the troops to have a day of rest and that Divine Service was to be performed in all Corps. The General's father Rev. Muhlenberg questioned the rioting patriot army invading his church and destroying the woods and crops. Washington and sixteen of his generals held conference there. [2]
