Elisabet was born in the Province of New York, probably at East Camp, which later became Germantown, New York, to parents whose families had arrived in New York as part of the Palatine migration of 1709-1710. A St. Peter’s Rhinebeck baptism record for Elisabet March 30 1735 lists her parents as Johan Nicol Muller and Maria Dortea.[1] The age reported for her in 1783 suggests a birth date in 1736.
Jonas Larrowa, recorded as the son of Piter, born at Schoharie, was married on 16 February 1754 to Elisabeth ("Betsy") Muller, daughter of Niclaas, born "in the Camp" (probably East Camp or West Camp, New York). They married in the High and Low Dutch Reformed Congregation, Schoharie, New York. Both were residents of Schoharie.[2][3]
During the American Revolutionary War, her husband Jonas Larraway was a Loyalist who fought in Butler's Rangers.[4] After the war, the family settled at Niagara, Ontario (then known as the western part of the Montreal district of the Province of Quebec; after 1791 it became Upper Canada). Jonas Larway, age 52, was recorded (and allocated rations) at Niagara on 30 November 1783, as listed on "Return of Persons under the Description of Loyalists, Specifying the Number, Ages, and Sexes of each family in Capt. John McDonnell's Company in the Corps of Rangers at Niagara." Betsy Larway, age 47 years 7 months, appears with him on the record. Their children on the record were Isaac Larway, age 22 years, 1 month; Jacob Larway 21 years 3 months; Jonis Larway 7 years 5 months; Dority Larway, age 19; Mary Larway, age 17 years 3 months; Hanny Larway, age 8 years 6 months; and Eave Larway, age 7 years 2 months.[5] She presumably is the woman recorded in the household of Jonas Lauroway in a 1787 census of recent settlers west of the Niagara River, entitled "Return of Loyalists & disbanded troops Settled in this District of Niagara West from Mill Creek." The record, dated 17 September 1787, listed Jonas Lauroway as a head of a five-person household consisting of himself, 1 woman, 1 boy over 10 (presumably son Jonas), and 2 girls (presumably daughters Hannah and Eva).[6]
