Biography

Ada Ethel Mullican was born in Macy, Miami, Indiana[1], about 2 Oct 1874 (see research note regarding "2 Oct") as the daughter of Isaac Mullican and Kate (Dickman) Mullican (aka Mary Catherine "Kate" Dickman).

In 1880 Ada was age 5 and living in Allen, Miami, Indiana with her parents Isaac Mullican (38) and Kate (Dickman) Mullican (34), and 3 siblings - John Mullican (13), Lorenzo A (7), and Carie L (2).[2]

Ada married George Darnell M.D. (aka Dr. George W Darnell)[1].

In 1900 Ada and George are living on 1st Street in Sumner, Bremer, Iowa where George was a practicing dentist.[3]

In 1910, Ada, now 34, has been married for 11 years, has moved to 2nd Street in Sumner, Iowa and has 4 children - Neva Gertrude (Darnell) Mason, Russell, Georgia (Darnell) Gross and a neonate yet to be named (later named James Roderick Darnell (1910-1998)])[4] (See research note regarding a possible (erroneous?) additional given name.)

In 1920 the family has moved again. They are now living on Wapsie St. in Sumner with an additional child, Mary (Darnell) Estey (aka Mary Katherine "Mary Kay" Darnell Estey) (age 6 - born 13 Sep 1913 in Sumner[5]).[6]

In 1830, only their two youngest children are still living in there home which is now in Denmark, Emmet, Iowa.[7]

In 1835-1940 the family was living at Ringsted, Emmet, Iowa with son James Roderick.[8]

In 1959 she and George are living at 204 Main Ave, in Mason City, Iowa.[9]

She passed away in Clear Lake, Iowa about 17 Sep 1967 and was buried at the Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner, Bremer, Iowa. [10] Her funeral services were held on Thurs, 21 Sep 1967 at Clear Lake. She was survived by three daughters, Neva (Darnell) Mason of Mason City, Georgia (Darnell) Gross of Jackson, Mississippi, and Mary (Darnell) Estey of West Union and one son, James Roderick Darnell (1910-1998) of Burlington.[11]

Research Notes

BIRTH DATE: No substantiating birth date has been found beyond Oct 1874 in Macy, Miami County, IN. Accurate date needed. One ancestry tree shows date of birth of 2 Oct 1874 but there is no substantiating source so can't be considered accurate.
