Research Notes

From GEDCOM imported profile:

There are some interesting and tragic events relating to the family of Marshall (Foot) and America Deloise Mullins. America's mother was Jane Mullins, daughter of Booker Basil and America Baker Mullins, and was the reputed mistress of the notorious gunman, Marshall B. (Doc) Taylor. America's father is said to be Jeremiah Bolling. Ulysses Mullins murdered King Bray and the story was told by Daniel Bartley Hollyfield in his book, [IT:School Days of a Backswoodsman and News and Views from Bold Camp, Virginia:IT], pg 712-13: "King Bray was killed Saturday, February 25th [1933] by Ulysses Mullins. King was about 25 years of age and unmarried. He was the son of George Bray of the Middle Fork of Bold Camp. From what can be learned it seems that they had had some disagreement some time before the killing. Andy Mullins and Ulysses Mullins were brothers and were together. They found King Bray at Hilt Taylor's, a close neighbor of both, and called him and they all went walking down the road. Ulysses
Mullins had a sawed-off twelve guage shot gun. It is not known exactly what conversation took place before the shooting. King was shot in the abdomen about two inches below the waistline and lived about fifteen minutes after the shooting. The writer, who was coming up the road with his son, Thurman Hollyfield, and Joe Skeen were the first to reach the place. When we arrived the Bray boy was lying flat on his back and half of his intestines exposed, still alive, but unconscious. The Mullins boys walked on off and Ulysses went and surrendered to Deputy Sheriff Robert Hubbard, claiming it was an accident. Ulysses Mullins had just returned from the penitentiary in Frankfort, Kentucky, about three months ago for shooting a man in Kentucky with a shot gun. Cazzy Mullins was unjustifiably killed by a police officer in an altercation during an arrest.
