Research Notes

Birth place is disputed: one of the merged profiles showed Henry County, Virginia as place of birth. This needs to be documented, either way. [4]

Franklin County, Virginia was formed in 1785 from parts of Bedford and Henry counties. Since the profiled was born before the county was formed, he was probably born in one of those two counties.

His death record states that he was 79 years of age at his death on 25 May 1859 in Pike (placing his year of birth at 1780). It also lists his parents as William and Sarah Mullins.[5]

The dates shown for the children can't all be accurate. Also, what records exist to confirm all of the children listed?

There is a possibility of this being two separate individuals:

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

William “Baldhead” Mullins was born in Henry County, Virginia, not Franklin County, Virginia. I also had this wrong in my info about him recently. Franklin County, Va was formed in 1785 from parts of Bedford Co, Va and Henry Co, Va. William was born before 1785 (some say about 1780, some say about 1784).

The informant for William’s death certificate apparently didn’t know the correct details to report. The death certificate shows he was born in Patrick County, Va and his mother was Sarah. Patrick County wasn’t formed until 1791. The name of his mother most often reported in documents was Jane. Yes, it’s possible her name may have been Sarah Jane but since the informant didn’t know where William was born, Jane is how she was identified, including in her father’s will as Jane Mulling.

Mullins-4985 and Mullins-314 appear to represent the same person because: apparent duplicates; please merge.
My interest in this profile is due to my belief that William is my 4th great grandfather through his probable son Booker Mullins and wife Mary "Polly" Newsome>Smith Crittenden Mullins and wife Sarah "Sallie" Craft>John Morgan Mullins and wife Arrilla Burk>Moses Smith Mullins and wife Lora Nickels.

Could someone put the children in order of birth in the bio?

I have found a copy of the death record on which William's but I don't know how to post it here as a source. It definitely says that he died in Pike County, Ky on 25 May 1859. It also says that he was 79 years old, which would put his birth at 1780. It also says that he was born in Patrick County, Va. However, whoever wrote that could not have asked William himself because he was dead. Patrick County was not formed until 1790-1791 when it was taken out of Henry County. I have a marriage document showing his marriage in Franklin County, Va, which was formed in 1785 from parts of Henry and Bedford counties, so I think his birthplace was probably called Henry County at the time of his birth, then Franklin after 1785, which borders Patrick County to the south.

I think this biography needs work. The gedcoms that it is based on are questionable. I think Joseph listed here may be the son of William's brother Booker. Booker and William are often confused as the same person. Also, I'm pretty sure that William had a son named Booker but he was not called "James" or "Dr Jim". Dr Jim is commonly listed as the son of "Old Booker".

I have the contents of the Deed Book G that I asked about below. There are 10 pages scribbled in longhand. I can share them with someone who is interested but I'm not sure how to do that here.

It has been said that William's estate settlement is described in Pike County Ky Deed Book G, pgs 91-101. It is said to list his ten children and their inheritance. How can we access this document?
