BOOKER MULLINS was born in or near the year 1766 in Franklin County, Virginia.[1] DNA evidence strongly suggests that he was the son of Sherwood Adkins and a daughter of William Mullins, Jr.[2]
James Booker Mullins was fined August 19, 1789 in Montgomery County, Virginia for not attending Muster.
On July 2, 1796 Booker entered 50 acres of land on the south side of Main Toe River and entered an additional 100 acres of land on Main Toe River, including the mouth of Big Bear Creek. This lies in Burke County, North Carolina. Bear Creek empties into Toe River at Penland, now in Mitchell County.
On January 29, 1818, Booker purchased at 200-acre tract of land along Shelby Creek from William James Mayo, Guardian of the heirs of William Morgan.[3]
Booker Mullins Sr.'s wife would be the Sarah mentioned in the death record of Isham Mullins. The name Nancy apparently comes from a mistake in the death record of one of Booker Mullins nieces. I believe Booker Mullins Sr. was only married once and this would probably have taken place ca 1787-1788. The other supposed marriage apparently is taken from an inaccurate record which mistakenly lists a niece as his daughter. Mullins-1478 17:10, 22 February 2015 (EST)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Booker by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
This is Booker “Old Booker” Mullins. There was no James Booker or James Mullins in any document or tax record during this timeframe. There are no source documents to indicate he was ever referred to as Grandsire and it was not part of his name or his nickname. His wife was Sarah (maiden name unknown) and he was not married to Judith Stanley.
There was a Judith Stanley who was the wife of William “Bald Head” Mullins and I don’t believe her parents have been discovered via sources, but I’m not sure. There was a Judith Stanley who was the wife of Booker “Little Book” Mullins and her parents were William Stanley and Nancy Mullins (researched by a descendant at the LDS Library).
I uploaded copies of (2) documents from "Booker James Mullins" counterfeit trial in 1837 in Russell County, Virginia. Added transcribed text and the source; Common law book, v. 1, 1809-1824 -- Common law book, v. 2, 1824-1837, Russell County, Virginia, p418-420, FamilySearch, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C33T-F21V?i=451&cat=1116092. Hope I'm being helpful...
looking for Solomon... see the profile for William M. Mullins (abt.1721-abt.1790), which lists in the second generation (William's grandson): Solomon "Counterfeitin Sol" MULLINS b. 20 Mar 1782. (Not the Solomon MULLINS named in the record, but I found it interesting that he had the nickname "Counterfeitin Sol").
This info should be moved to the other James Mullins... Mullins-963? In that bio it mentions counterfeiting... sorry, for adding confusion. I've removed the documents, write-up and source.
Thanks for moving the info - and for finding/uploading it in the first place! The myriad James Mullins can be very confusing... part of the reason for the space page!
A comment on the space page mentions 25 separate Booker Mullinses... maybe we need another space page to work on tracking them down?
I found two at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-D4GS-3GN? (Booker Jr on that page, Dad Booker W. Mullins on the previous page, born October 1858 with wife Eliza born July 1847 [sic - from image of census page]... 1900 census for Kanawha County, WV. Lots of Mullins families.

Judith Stanley - Stanley-827 needs to be removed from his wives because there appears to be no proof that the Judith Stanley was married to James Booker Mullins. There was a marriage record for her marriage to William Mullins on 24 March 1803 in Franklin County, Virginia. (Source: "Virginia Marriages, 1785-1940," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRQ6-QYS : 11 February 2018), William Mullins and Judith Stanley, 24 Mar 1803; citing Franklin County, Virginia, reference p70; FHL microfilm 31,523. [Image on https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9XF-VX5D?i=91].) Note: Surety on this marriage bond was listed as Richard Stanley.
William Mullins left the area and settled in Pike County, Kentucky. The mortality schedule of 1850 shows a Judy Mullins dieing in August 1849 in Pike County, Kentucky.
There does seem to be more than one Judith Stanley in the same time period in Franklin County, Virginia. There is another marriage bond for a Judith Stanley on the same document page but she was married to Bowker Mullins on 17 May 1803 in Franklin County, Virginia. (Source: "Virginia Marriages, 1785-1940", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRQ6-Q5G : 29 January 2020), Bowker Mullins, 1803. [1].) That marriage bond has a listed surety of Joseph Stanley. I think these are two different Judith (Stanley) Mullins.
It should be noted that the Booker Mullins in Franklin County, Virginia has a woman named Judith in his 1850 and 1860 census households. It does not appear that the family left the County so I doubt that this family is the same as the profiled who should have been in other locations from previous research during those census years.
Per request of Jeanne Howell, I have detached Booker Mullins as a child, because as she points out his profile identifies his parents as different people. If anyone has any concerns about this, please weigh in.
in the 1850 census, Perry County KY, "Old Booker" was living with his son James and his wife Agnes Little....James Mullins, 64 born VA, Agnes, 58 b KY. Sarah 12 ( believed to be the daughter of James bro Booker who went to Texas) and Booker 88, b Va
See Space:Two_Mullins_Men, which was created to "document what info belongs to whom & to serve as a reference to keep "Old Brook" Mullins and "Dr. Jim" Mullins separate."
added 1787 as the marriage year for Sarah (lost when she'd been detached as wife). Covered in text as "probably ... ca 1787-1788" & found in the changes history of Sarah's profile here.
do we know whose wife "Nancy Jane Stanley" is? Or if she's even a Mullins wife? (looks like her mother is a Mullins)
the marriage date - married 12 May 1803 in Franklin, Virginia - seems like it would be appropriate for the Booker Mullins who married Judith Stanley & who never left Franklin County (from comment on Space:Two Mullins Men).
Sources on Nancy Jane Stanley's profile (Stanley-8702) would be helpful.
In the meantime, I think she needs to be detached from this James Booker Mullins.
Yes and the PHOTO attached to this profile is of Booker Basil Mullins s/o Dr. Jim Mullins who married Nancy Younce. This error has been floating around for almost 15 years.
Might it be recommended to not list 'Grandsire' as a nickname? This was used more as a recognition of 'senior' or 'elder' upon reaching a certain age, much like grandfather would be.
