Biography

Richard was 8th of 10 children of Ambrose MULLIS, Sr. and Nancy CASS. Although census report his birth in TN, his family were long-time residents of the Wilkes Co on the border with Tennesse in rugged mountainous terrain. Richard's parents were recorded in 1810 in both Wilkes and adjoining Iredell County NC.

After his mother's death c. 1829 (see Will of Nancy Mullice, Iredell Co.), Richard migrated to Indiana with his brother Ambrose and sisters Nancy, Jane and Sarah, accompanied by John and Darlett Stanley Mullis.

He married Nancy PARKS 13 Oct 1836 in Fayette County, IN.

Richard married second to Elenor "Ellen" SMITH 13 Dec 1842 in Hancock Co. IN. They were in various places in Indiana including Hancock, Fayette and Tipton counties, then relocated to Henry County, MO, after 1880 where they joined their son, Floyd C. "Cash" Mullis. A newspaper of nearby Clinton, Mo. stated "Grampa Mullis claims he voted for Andrew Jackson in 1828." Perhaps a fib, Richard was then only eighteen.

Richard died in Henry Co. Mo. (Find a Grave). His siblings are named in mother Nancy Mullice's will filed in Iredell Co., N. C. in 1829, two brothers being Ambrose b. 1812 d. Indiana, 1903, and James b. c. 1798 - in Whitley Co. Ky. 1840 -1850s, Parke Co., Ind. 1860 where he died in 1879, his widow Nancy Chambers Mullis in 1884 per Will and Probate. ^[1]
