Robert Charles Godfrey (XXVII Count of Mondaye) was born in 1875, the son of Herbert Godfrey Mundy and his wife, Mary Emily Cooper. [1]
He fought in the Boer Wars and was a personal friend of His Majesty King Alphonse XIII of Spain from whom he received the Grand Cross of Isabel la Catolica for services to the Spanish King. [2]
In 1901 he was living with his grandmother in Streatham earning his living as an auctioneer and valuer. [3]
Robert married Maud Andrew in 1903. The married was registered at St George, Hanover Sq. [4] His second wife was Dorothy Phillips whom he married in 1920. That marriage was registered in Barnstaple. [5]
During the Second World War he was living with his wife, Dorothy, and his son, Rodney, at the Hotel Beausite in Cannes where he died of a thrombosis on 4 December 1941. [6]
