Pierrepont Mundy is Notable.

Pierrepont Henry Mundy son of Godfrey Basil Mundy and his wife, Sarah Brydges Rodney, [1]was baptised at Kirk Hallam in Derbyshire on 13 August 1815. [2] He chose a career in the Army but also found time to play first class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club. [3] [4]By 1841 he was serving at the Royal Artillery Barracks at Woolwich in Kent, alongside his youthful uncle, Robert Miller Mundy, commanding officer Lt Colonel William Wylde.[5] In November 1847 he took over as Adjutant [6] and was promoted Captain in 1849. [7]

By 1858 Pierrepont had reached the rank of Colonel [8] and the following year he married Harriet Georgina Richards, widow of Edward Priest Richards and daughter of Vice Admiral George Tyler and his wife, Harriet Sullivan. The marriage was registered at St George Hanover Sq. [9][1] Harriet brought her daughter, another Harriet, to the marriage and in 1861 Pierrepont, aged 46, was living at St Vincent Lodge in Southsea with young Harriet and his own child, his son, Godfrey then aged 8 months. His wife was not present when the census was taken that year but her brother-in-law, Wyndham Wyndham-Quinn was. [10] Not that that suggests anything was wrong with the marriage. A year later Harriet presented Pierrepont with another son whom they called Basil St John Mundy. [11] Harriet died 8 September 1865 in Brighton and Pierrepont obtained administration of her estate on 19 May 1866.[12]

On 30 April 1870 he married Geraldine Henrietta Townsend Stephens. [1][13] The marriage was registered at Thornbury in Gloucestershire. [14]

Pierrepont's second marriage did not cut him off from his first in-laws. In 1871 he was, with his sons, stepdaughter and nephew staying with his first mother-in-law, Harriet Tyler, at her home in Glamorgan. again his wife did not spend census night under the same roof.[15] [16]

Henry died at home at Thornbury House on 16 February 1889 leaving an estate valued at £8248 4s 11d.[17] His death was registered at Thornbury. [18]
