Biography

Private William Murphree served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: July 1862
Mustered out: Sept 1862
Side: CSA
Regiment(s): Shaler's Arkansas Infantry

William B. Murphree was born in November 1829 in Blount County, Alabama, United States, son of Marvel Murphree (~1805–1864) and Edith Francis Easley (1811–>1900).[1][2]

He served with the CSA during the War Between the States. He was in Company I of Shaller's Regiment (6th?) from about July 1862 to Sept 1862.[3]

He seems to have had a marriage at some point, but his wife's name remains unknown.[4][5]

He qualified for a disability pension do to complete incapacitation from disease. It was filed 12 July 1901 and approved 29 August 1901 in St. James, Arkansas. He suffered a "hernial rupture on the left side extending both internal and external. This was caused by a severe rupture during his service." The physician also noted that his overall condition was very bad. He had bronchitis, acute kidney disease, wounds and was blind. [3] He had also applied in 1893, but was not approved because his problems did not stem from a service wound.

So, he was still living in 1901. Perhaps further exploration of military records would reveal a date of death.

Research Notes

Not sure about his military service. He refers to as Shaler's, but also calls it the 6th. The area that is now Stone Co would still have been Izard Co in the 1860's. Shaler conscripted many men from Izard Co for the Ark 27th. Haven't found where he had anything to do with the 6th. A search does show a "William B. Murphy" enlisted with Co. I of the Ark 27th[6] and also the 33rd that seem to be about the same age.[7]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
