Note NI196Katherine we all knew as "Kate", and to some of the family she was "Mufty". It is while pulling this all together now that I wish that I had had more when Aunt Kate was alive to glean more information from her. She did tell me howerver, that when she made her First Communion inBoston, Aunt Ellen Behan from Quebec City attended. Aunt Ellen was very interested in the person who sang during the ceremony, and it turned out to be Eva Fallon. Eva Fallon eventually went on the stage and starred with Bessie McCoy in "Three Twins" in the early 1900's. Katherine went on to say that another actress in that production married Charlie Hart (this appears to be another part of this family story) and that Eva Fallon came to the wedding in Montreal and that Charlie's brother Frank, had a mad crush on her. . . .family trivia. Kate also liked to write stories for children and she told me that she had some accepted by "Youth's Companion Magazine" and they were published. I saw thismagazine mentioned in the mid 1970's and it stated that the Perry Mason Company were the publishers.
The O'Reilly family knew "Aunt Kate" well as she resided in Montreal at the Davis home on Mountain Street. For years she looked after her aunt-by-marriage Gertrude Devlin Davis who was unwell, and also ran thesometimes complicated household. When we visited Aunt Kate there, we always had ginger-ale and the best cookies in what was called the "Breakfast Room".
When the house on Drummond Street was sold, Kate moved to an apartment on her own and started a new life, with new friends and her storiesbecame even more amusing. Eventually she was moved to a nursing home where she died suddenly, but alert to the end, in 1979.
